Why a balance bike?
Balance bikes help children with the most crucial element of learning to ride, balance. Young children are drawn to the simplicity of a balance bike and in a surprisingly short amount of time are quickly zooming around. With this confidence, when it comes time to stepping up to a pedal bike, they are only incorporating the process of pedaling rather than the challenging balancing skill. Before you know it, they are off and away without fear… or training wheels!
How old does my child need to be to ride a Let’s Roll balance bike?
If your child can walk well and is tall enough to have both feet flat on the ground when sitting on the balance bike, then they are ready to get rolling! The balance bike is all about learning to 'balance'. Many children start by just walking the bike around (which all our kids did to begin with). Generally speaking, around 18 months to 2 years is when they will begin actually riding the balance bike. A child's individual coordination level and confidence will also dictate how quickly they want to ride the bike. With encouragement and support they will rolling around in no time.
How high should the seat be?
Test that the seat is at the correct height by having the rider sit on the seat and checking that their feet can rest flat on the ground.
Ensure that the minimum insertion line is not visible and is completely inserted into the frame and the seats post is not lowered to a point where the seat rubs against the tyre.
What is the minimum seat height?
Dash is a slightly lower bike than our Frankie design and it also has a more manageable seat to handlebar distance for our smaller riders. With the seat all the way down, Dash is 28cm and Frankie 30cm from ground to top of mid seat.
How high should the handlebars be on Dash?
The handlebars should be comfortably reached with a slight arm bend. There is a minimum insertion line on the handlebars.
Which balance bike should I choose – Frankie or Dash?
Both bikes are aluminium and are made with high quality fixtures and fittings. Apart from appearance, the only real difference between the two bikes is the inflatable tyres on Frankie compared to the unique formed tyres (PU) on Dash, which don't require air. Also, Dash is slightly smaller in top tube length and has adjustable height handlebars.
What is the difference between inflatable tyres and PU tyres?
Pump up tyres are replaceable and have an inner tube, like a regular pedal bike. PU tyres are co-moulded to the plastic wheels and do not require air. The PU tyres offer the same grip and durability as our inflatable tyres. PU tyres are superior to EVA moulded tyres which are commonly found on cheap entry level bikes.
What tyre pressure should the tyres be pumped up to?
You can find the maximum inflation limits on the side wall of the tyre. Do not over inflate the tyres. For beginners, low tyre pressure creates greater roll resistance and slows the bike down, which can allow the rider to build up their confidence.
Do I need to assemble the bike when it arrives?
